Workpack: Room Interiors
A summary of the 'Room Interiors' feature in Workpack
This article offers an overview of the Room Interiors feature that was added to Workpack as part of the 9/7/2025 update.
You can track updates to Workpack, and all of Beck Tech's other products, via the Product Updates section of the Help Center.
What is the ‘Room Interiors’ Feature?
-
Room Interiors (RIs) are polygonal objects detected in order to take off the inner area of rooms, i.e. by inner side of the room walls.
-
RI polygon is a feature of a Room object. A Room has inner and outer polygons measuring net and gross perimeters and areas.
How to Setup Room Interiors
- RIs are detected if Rooms are set to be detected. As a result, user gets two measurements per Room - a Net Area (drawn as a Room Interior) and a Gross Area.
- Room Interior detection can’t be turned off.
Room Interiors in Takeoff Mode
-
There are two modes of viewing Rooms: default one and Room Interior mode. To switch RI mode on, click on the square icon near to Rooms node in the Left Panel:
-
Properties Panel shows measurements for both gross (default) and net (Room Interiors) areas:
-
A net area is always lesser than its according gross area.
Add, edit, delete Room Interiors
-
You can add Room in both modes. Drawing a room from the default mode adds a Room Interior with inner offset, and drawing in RI mode draws an outer polygon with an outer offset:
-
Edit: add, move or delete points in Rooms and Room Interiors are independent except two cases:
- If a point of a Room Interior goes out of a Room polygon, then the Room polygon is redrawn so that it completely encloses the interior polygon inside.
- If a point of a Room goes inside of a Room Interior polygon, then the Room Interior polygon is redrawn so that the Room polygon completely encloses the interior polygon inside.
-
Deleting from either mode deletes Room totally including both gross and net polygons.
Room Interiors in Export
-
Three new columns were added to the Rooms and Room Groups tab: Net LF, Net SF, Net Wall SF:
-
For now, Room Interiors’ measurements do not take Exclusion Areas into account (EA support will be delivered in future updates).
