Problem
When an estimator elects to delete a line item that is mapped to a takeoff for various reasons:
They want to remove this cost from a specific part of the job. - i.e. "I have added decorative fountains for the lobby of buildings 1 and 2 but want to remove them from building 2."
They want to replace that cost with another cost. - "I have done takeoff for ceramic tile on floors 1 through 5 but want to remove the tile from floor 3 and replace it with carpet."
The cost is covered elsewhere. - i.e. I originally priced each tree in the landscaping plans but the cost is being picked up in some other area that is not directly tied to the takeoff by a lump sum subcontractor bid and we still need to show the quantities for that landscaping package in the takeoff.
Solution
- When a line item that is part of a split cost is deleted, only that line item will be deleted.
- That line item’s associated takeoff will be moved to new material and remain unmapped.
- The new material is renamed, appending "[Removed Cost]"
- The material will be unique and should be additionally appended with an incrementing number if necessary
