How to Transition From Estimator 2018 to Team Estimator

Here are some things to know when transitioning from Estimator 2018 to Team Estimator

Estimates

• 2018 versions and Team Estimator versions can both be installed on a machine at the same time.
• As 2018 saves estimates to files and Team Estimator saves estimates to a database, we do not have a way of converting 2018 projects to Team Estimator - meaning you can't open the 2018 files into Team Estimator.

The recommended workflow includes:

  • Continuing/completing estimates in 2018. Once the estimate is complete, if the user wants to move it to Team Estimator for the purposes of cost history, the estimate can be exported from 2018 and imported into Team Estimator.
  • The estimate will be brought into Team Estimator, however, the takeoff will not be.
  • Start new estimates in Team Estimator
  • Any projects in 2018 that are candidates for use in cost history studies can be exported from 2018 and imported into Team Estimator.
  • Files transfer - In the 2018 version files can be copied and pasted into Team Estimator similar to copying and pasting in Excel by opening both versions. This article - uses the spreadsheet method has both the copy and paste and import method. There are some limitations to both methods because there are new columns in Team Estimator that are not in the 2018 version. So for speed purposes, using the copy and paste method will be the best choice because it will only paste in columns that are visible to the data.

Templates

Any templates that contain line items can be exported from 2018 and imported into Team Estimator.

  • The process would be:
    1. Open template in 2018 and export.
    2. Open Team Estimator and create a new template. Import into this new template or copy-paste.
  • 2D Takeoff Palettes
We have a tool that will convert takeoff palettes from 2018 to Team Estimator. In order to do this, we would need the user to send us the takeoff palette and their project database (if they have one). We can then convert it and send their project database back to them.
  • Project view, Layouts, and Save filters currently cannot be converted and need to be done manually.

DESTINI Estimator Additional 2018 User Notes

1. There are no .bak files in Team Estimator like there were in 2018 Estimator, the data is saved in cache and then bulk save to the database when a user clicks the Save Button as you did in the 2018 Estimator.

2. If the Estimates database is blinking red in the lower right of the application, then clicking on the Save Button will Refresh the connection and attempt to connect back to the database server.

3. Additional info on each new release can be found in the new release section of the Community along with a Webinar about each feature; that info can be found in Product Update.
