Error: Unable to Connect to the Database; Check the Database Connection Profile and Reconnect

Very Important - All new users will need to be added to the Windows Active Directory Group that is used to access the databases. This is done by the IT Admin. If they are not added they will not see the database when they try to create the profiles.

Occasionally a database connection profile can get un-linked or "broken" when a user launches Estimator, they will get the following error below.

If they click OK and continue to load the application they will see the following error below.

This is happening for a few reasons, if the database profiles were already created and are no longer working when launching the application, then try reconnecting from inside the application - Home > Connect to Database > Click the profile.

If this still doesn't work then try and modify the profiles - How to create or modify a Cost database connection profile or How to create or modify an Estimates database profile - (DESTINIData).

Using Local Databases - This section is for the users that are using a local cost database and get the above error.

This can also happen in Data Manager. If a user tries to connect to a cost database and the mouse cursor just spins for a long time, then more than likely their SQL server is not running. Most databases will connect in about 30 seconds.

If this happens then you should check to see if your SQL Server is running. Bring up the Task Manager > Services > SQL Server (BECKTECHNOLOGY). Right-click on the Server and Start the server. f you do not have admin rights to run Services then you will have to get your IT department to start the server for you.

New Install Note: If this is a new install, please check that the SQL Server is installed. Some windows 10 requires updates that prevent SQL from installing. Also if there are pending updates, SQL will also not install until a restart is done.

If you already installed and found out that SQL didn't get installed:

Uninstall Data Manager and re-run the Estimator.exe setup and make sure that you didn't get any errors. If you received an error please contact support@beck-technology.com.
