Adding Custom Property Fields to the Create New Estimate Window

When creating a new estimate in Estimator, users are greeted by the Create New Estimate window, where they enter standard properties, such as Estimate Name, Client, Location, etc.

Estimator also supports the ability to add custom properties to this window, allowing users to create their own set of standard properties that they would like to include in future estimates.

This is achieved by making some simple modifications to the Project tab inside of a Template Estimate. Here are the steps:

  • Create a new Template Estimate, or locate an existing template and click Edit Template

  • Navigate to the Project tab. In the Properties list is an Ask column.

  • Properties which are checked here will show up in the Create New Estimate window. You can check existing properties, or create new properties by clicking on the Add Property button.

  • Select the Properties that you'd like to see in the Create New Estimate window. In the below example, we have checked the Lead Estimator Property.

  • Close the template.
  • Now, we can confirm it worked by creating a new estimate from that template. In the Start View, navigate to the Templates tab, locate the template estimate and click New Estimate.

  • In the Create New Estimate window, you should now see your custom properties under a new Estimate Properties section.

NOTE: The Estimate Name property is the only mandatory field in the Create New Estimate window. All other fields are optional and, at present, there is no option to make them required.
